Case Study: American Thoracic Society raises health awareness with a RADIO ROUNDUP distribution

Society Informs New Audiences with Successful Campaign: A Radio Feature Release Case Study

Posted

 COMPANY OVERVIEW

The American Thoracic Society (ATS) improves global health by advancing research, patient care, and public health in pulmonary disease, critical illness, and sleep disorders. Founded in 1905 to combat TB, the ATS has grown to tackle asthma, COPD, lung cancer, sepsis, acute respiratory distress, and sleep apnea, among other diseases.

 CHALLENGE

Over 16 million people suffer from COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and other chronic respiratory diseases. How do you let these people with these chronic conditions find out about treatment options available that can change their quality of life?

APPROACH

If you're the ATS, working with RoseComm Communications, you partner with NAPS on a nationwide radio release that informs those Americans with COPD and other chronic respiratory diseases on pulmonary rehabilitation treatments. This radio spot aimed at educating sufferers of these conditions on a comprehensive six to 12 week program of supervised exercise, education and support that teaches patients how to manage their breathing and helps to improve their lives.

RESULTS

This 30-second spot was aired 1,081 times on radio stations in 31 states with a cumulative reach of 81.5 million listeners. Of all placements, 32% were in the top 50 markets, 58% were in the most populous third of the states and 55% were in the wealthiest 25% of states. The article was viewed 1,119 times on our site.

As a result of this radio campaign, the ATS saw an increase of traffic at the website developed for this education effort, www.livebetter.org, in the hopes that patients of chronic pulmonary diseases can find the information and nearby programs that can help them live better lives.
