The companycollects the eyeglasses and sends them to New Eyes for the Needy, where they are recycled and distributed to charities, medical missions and hospitals in more than 30 countries. New Eyes for the Needy also assists underprivileged people here in the U.S. by providing vouchers for new prescription eyeglasses. Individuals and groups are encouraged to donate their old eyeglasses, reading glasses, sunglasses and prescription sunglasses to people who desperately need them. “Sometimes the only thing separating someone from seeing Pearle Vision’s eyeglass collection program aids underprivileged people worldwide @ clearly or not seeing at allis a pair of eyeglasses,” said Mauri Buchanan, president of New Eyes for the Needy. “We are grateful to Pearle Vision and its customers for their continued support.” New Eyes for the Needy is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to help provide better vision for underprivileged people throughout the world. Since its inception in 1932, New Eyes has helped nearly six million visually impaired people in many foreign nations, as well as in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Since 1993, Pearle Vision and the Pearle Vision Foundation, a non-profit organization, have partnered with New Eyes for the Needy to provide corrective eyewear to those in need. Recently, the Foundation awarded a $28,000 grant to New Eyesto aid in the purchase of new prescription eyewear for approximately 1,000 people across the U.S. through its eyeglass voucher program—bringing the total grants awardedto this organization by the Foundation to nearly $200,000.
