HEROES In Search Of Heroes (NAPSA)—Ahero is someone who acts with courage to improve the lives of others. One example is Bao Xiong, 37, of Wausau, Wis. Years ago, as a refugee moving to Wausau from Laos, Xiong learned many Hmong womenin the town’s 4,000-member Hmong community wanted to help support their families. However, their limited English kept them from finding jobs. Xiong learned English so she could be an interpreter for Hmong women seeking = jobs, and she got a childcare license so she =could care for fe Ae the children of Hmong women (sg a who were workRES ing or taking Bao Xiong, Volvo for English classes. Awards arlier this year, judges named Xiong one of America’s top three hometown heroes in the first-ever Volvo for Life Awards—a national search for, and celebration of, everyday heroes. Nominate a Local Hero The second annual Volvo for Life Awards is underway. Organizers are seeking nominations for individuals making outstanding contributions in their communities. Judges will select nine finalists. Three winners will each receive $50,000 to be donated to the charities of their choice. Six will each receive a $10,000 charitable donation.
