(NAPSA)—Advances in seed technologies helped many farmers achieve increased productivity, improved pest protection and higheryields. Harvest results for 2010 showed that: Farmers growing Genuity SmartStax have the opportunity to see a whole-farm yield advantage of more than six bushels per acre compared to YieldGard VT Triple products. This is based on 5,600 comparisons across 90 to 105 RM, consisting of a 3.6 bu/a trait performance advantage and a 1.5-3.0 bu/a increase in wholefarm yield potential due to the reduced refuge to 5 percent in the Corn Belt, the lowestlevel. Genuity VT Double PRO™ corn showeda 7.9 bu/a yield advantage versus competitive double stacks nationally. This technology also lets farmers in the Corn Belt reduce their refuge from 20 percent to 5 percent. * Genuity VT Triple PRO™ corn had an 8.8 bu/a yield advantage nationally versus competitive triple stacks. This technology provides a refuge reduction from 50 percent to 20 percent in the Cotton Belt. All three corn technologies provided very effective control of corn earworm this season. “This was a really big year for corn earworms,” said Dr. Chism Craig, Monsanto Corn Traits Technical Development Manager. “We saw a New soybean technology provides more beans per pod and more bushels per acre. significant reduction in the amount of earworm damage with these new traits compared with competitive technologies.” For soybean farmers, thelatest soybean trait—Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield—delivered more three-, four- and even five-bean pods and a 3.8 bu/a yield advantage compared with Pioneer and NK soybeans. More beans per pod and more beans per plant can mean more bushels at harvest. “We had beans all the way up and down those stems,” said Midwest farmer Wayne Ostermeyer. “If you get more beans per pod, you’re just going to see more yield.” Future Technology Advances Newtraits currently in research and development are designed to give farmers even better ways to protect against environmental stresses and boostyields. For example, a drought-tolerant corn product concept, designed to mitigate yield loss in water-limited areas, such as the Farmers report improved insect protection and higher yields with the latest corn technologies. Western Corn Belt. By balancing plant breeding, biotechnology and agronomic systems, scientists manage risk associated with drought, leading to improved moisture balance, increased yield and improved plant performance. This project is a part of Monsanto’s research pipeline and has not been commercialized. Commercialization will be dependent on many factors including successful conclusion of the regulatory process.
