Nearly seventy-percent of our nation’s firefighters and first responders are volunteer, and they need support. We spoke with our members at the National Volunteer Fire Council to find out what is needed now.
A lot of people are just worried about supplies. Our supplies are getting pretty low and that gives us great concern. Aside from the P-P-E issues, they’re really worried about if they are exposed and they have to be away from work for a certain amount of time. We’re going to need some money there, and so that’s one way the public can support us as well is, keep sending money into that support fund. What I really truly hope is that people don’t forget that feeling right now of wanting to volunteer and give back to their community. I hope this doesn’t dramatically change the volunteer fire service.
