The Top Auto Stories of the Decade

Techniques That Can Help You To Earn More Media Coverage

By Dorothy York, President and CEO of North American Precis Syndicate (NAPS)

To help our clients find formats that are getting the best results, North American Precis Syndicate ranks the top feature news stories of the year by the highest number of placements in media outlets nationwide.  We have compiled the results to show the top feature news stories of the decade, those that have performed brilliantly, way above and beyond what is typically expected.

The most successful stories included attractive color photos or infographics, helpful advice from experts, celebrity spokespeople, the latest statistics, results from surveys, trends, time-saving tips, money saving ideas and other helpful information.  The stories were targeting people across various demographic groups, relating to accident prevention, protecting the safety and assets, of the readers, their friends and family members.

We are passionate about working on the kinds of stories that help millions of people nationwide with the news that is potentially life saving or can improve the quality of their lives.

To name a few, here are examples by topic, of the work from the best and brightest Automotive communications professionals for some of the most demanding management teams at leading organizations:

government.

Here is how one organization scored billions of impressions with a series of the Auto Featurettes:

Car Care Council Mission: The Car Care Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating motorists about the importance of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair through its “Be Car Care Aware” consumer education campaign.

Challenge: Car Care Council created an awareness of the Car Care Guide which boasts 80 pages of useful information for motorists and is available free, electronically or by printed copy, in English and Spanish. The guide covers major services, 12 component groups within the vehicle, service interval recommendations and much more. Additional topics include an expanded environmental awareness section, finding an automotive repair shop, alternative fuels, understanding the warranty, vehicle telematics, and careers in the auto care industry.

Approach:  Care Care Council has distributed a series of multimedia Featurettes in English and Spanish for more than a decade.  There logo was used to design a customized masthead which appears as the headline of each of their articles.  Editors have used this series much like a syndicated column, which has built up a strong following over the years.

Results:  The highly successful series has been averaging well over 1,000 placements per print/online release, 300+ on-air placements for each radio release and 100+ on-air placements for each TV release.  These articles and spots have been picked up in every state nationwide, primarily in the wealthiest and most populous communities, in media outlets that are supported by local advertising.  Cumulative results have included billions of media impressions, over the past decade.

Here’s what one client has said about their NAPS multimedia distribution program:

"Having looked around for other providers, I am convinced that NAPS is the best way to go for broad dissemination of my releases, be they print, radio or TV."--John Goodwin, President, Galaxy Press.
